Family & Friends:
Good news! Karen was discharged from the hospital on Monday (July 9) late in the afternoon. Four days as a 'guest' there was quite enough. Even her Doctor said she'd get more rest at home than hanging out there another night. Gone will be those wee hour in the morning wake-up visits by the nurse to check Karen's blood pressure, temperature, and give her medications.
Two of her three surgeons, Dr. Hyde and Dr. Gallis, came by at 2:00 PM to see her and agreed to send her home. Then after a flurry of hospital staff with forms, advice, and instructions, we drove away in our car. Oh, what a feeling! Dinner included a home-cooked meal of BBQ salmon and steamed spinach. Karen enjoyed seeing our intuitive dog Blackie who knew something was up, and was glad to see his mom again ;-)
After errands to the drug store and Target for a pillow and some other items, it was off to bed, and the start of a new normal ...
Please give Karen time to heal. She's requested your patience and no phone calls or visitors just yet. Cards are welcome ... no flowers though ... thanks! More to follow soon. Be well,
Jeff & Karen

There IS no placelike home. I hope you mend quickly and want you to know that you are in our thoughts and prayers. Love, Ruth

Jeff,
I'm not able to respond to the blog site....so just wanted you to know I'm just back from CR, making sure everything will be great for Karen's celebration of "new life"! You are both in my heart and I know you are survivors. Please let me know when it is OK to call. Hugs!

Karen and Jeff,
I have been following your progress on the blog but haven't been able to successfully leave a comment on it. So just want to say that you have been in my thoughts and prayers, and I am thrilled to see how wonderfully you are progressing through this. I'm sure there has been plenty of challenge, but what a difference to have the right attitude. Right, Karen, you talked to me about attitude, here's a great example.
Congrats on getting back home; I'm sure that will make a huge difference. If you can do such good healing in the hospital, just think what will happen at home!
With love,
Jennifer (FL)

Jeff and Karen,
Could you use help in any way with Blackie in the next few weeks?
I'll be in town mostly and would be happy to walk him, feed him, or
give him medicine.
Blackie is very welcome to stay with us, too. Harpo and Zeppo and I feel the more, the merrier! Just let us know,
Much love,
Claudia and Mark

Jeff-
You are right, the hospital and coming home after sucks!! I wish you all weren't going through this. I appreciate so much your positive attitudes....I think that makes such a difference. My brother is a living testament to that..
When you need something, let me know!!
Much love to you both.

Oh My! I read Karen’s blog, with her humor and focus on the positive. She will do well on this journey, especially with you at her side Jeff.
I am sending warm thoughts and healing energy your way. I also liked the idea of being able to support you and Karen through your organic foods program. I found it helpful to me to be able to help in some tangible way. Of course, I’ll send continuing prayers for you two.
My best to you. I’ll continue to look at the blog to get updates.
Love and hugs,
Linda

Hi Jeff and Karen,
We wanted to let you know that our prayers are with you for a speedy recovery. If anyone has the resources and positive spirit to move through this illness, it's you both, as evident from your email. Hats off to you.
much love,
Rachel and Tom
I'm so glad you are home! I'm still on the east coast in Martha's Vineyard. I've been thinking of you when I look at the dunes, the seagulls, actually just about anything! This place has the feeling, the state of mind that you are aspiring to hold onto. There is a bell on the jetty 50 feet off of our stern that softly bongs all day and night with the wind like a Tibetan prayer bell. Our bow faces into the Menemsha pond. We really should come here together sometime. Love, Julie
Hi Karen,
Glad to learn that you are home with your loved ones and back on the mend. Jake and Helen send their best wishes. Love you guys!
