Oh, the places we will go...

The answer is simple if you know where to look ... the trick is looking in places beyond just medical textbooks!

Jeff and I trekked to Los Angeles on Sunday 9/2 to the 35th Annual Cancer Convention for Alternative Therapies. Our goal was to learn more about viable alternative and complementary treatment options as I decide my own next steps. And learn we did!

It was a good place to learn more about the spectrum of information out there in addition to my doctors, the Internet, and various breast cancer and government organizations.

Prior to going, one of my oncologists told me they'd heard of this event and I should expect to see some "hokey" things. He was right, yet there were some amazing men, women, and children who had their episode with cancer and are fully recovered. They gave testimonials about alternative and complementary treatment options that worked for them. Also, a number of well credentialed MD's gave presentations, in addition to selected product vendors. Topics ranged from nutrition and pro-biotics, to environmental toxins/treatment and specific cancer treatment protocols.

We had an amazing conversation with the founder/researcher of a product company in the tradeshow area too. His product is a fermented soybean oral nutritional protein beverage used for cancer patients and anti-aging. His passion, scientific knowledge, and documented research was evident. And, we saw the hokey including a retired record industry executive now selling his "life's work" -- some really nice meditation CDs. However, he was also selling a solar- powered radio transmitter jewelry piece that supposedly beams 7.5 Hertz radio waves to your heart chakra for healing/stress reduction benefits ... well, you get the picture. At least he was entertaining!

To quote a line from the movie, The Notebook, "You know what they say, science can only go so far, then God takes over. I've got all the information and now it's a conversation between me and God. I think I'm in good hands. Please continue your prayers and support...they are so very important to me.

Love,
Karen

PS Jeff and I celebrated our 14th wedding anniversary on September 3rd! Pretty cool, huh?

Deb: Hope this email finds you in good spirits. I think about you often but my thoughts were more focus with the arrival of the Jewish Book Fair catalogue. I am sure the Book Fair will be a wonderful success but it will be missing something without your beautful smile. Hang in there girl. You are special. ed
