Update: Karen's surgery went well !!

Family & Friends:

Today was Karen's surgery ... it was a long day starting at 4:30 AM. We arrived at the hospital at 5:30 AM, she was in surgery for ~4 hours from 7:30 AM-Noon, in post-op for 2 hours, and then in her hospital room by 2:30 PM.

Karen is doing well and very pleased with the outcomes. Her two surgeons did a terrific job! We appreciate their medical skills and compassion. Dr. Hyde said she has clear margins, and only had to remove the sentinel lympth node (which tested negative -- a very good thing). He believes her prognosis is very positive. Her other surgeon, Dr. Bartelbort, said the reconstruction procedure went very well also.

Karen will be at the hospital through next Monday or Tuesday. She kindly requested no flowers, calls, or visitors at this time. Get well cards are appreciated though, as are your kind thoughts and prayers. She needs her rest, and really appreciates your understanding!

The nurses are great and very attentive. Either Karen's niece Lauren or myself were with her all day today after surgery. She's tired and sore, but in good spirits.

Thank you all for your prayers and positive thoughts ...

With Love,

Jeff & Karen

Awesome news! "No margins" is a fantastic phrase with "negative lymph nodes" just as wonderful.

Karen, I have always admired your tenacity. I have no doubt you'll get through this relatively unscathed.

It's tough to honor your no calls no flowers wishes. Selfishly I want to be sure you know that I care deeply about what your going through.

But having been there I understand your need for solitude while you recover. I remember you and Jeff visiting me in the hospital while I slept. That was nice. No pressure.

It's tough to have to focus on a conversation when you're in pain or out of it because of the pain meds.

Just know I'm thinking of you.
I love you.

OMG, I sent flowers yesterday, don't be mad. I'm so far away and I couldn't get into the blog until today (with tech help from lowell). I'm thrilled with your great results and I send love and support. Sleep well, rest well, heal well. All my love, Julie
