Family & Friends:
Karen is touched by your posts to this blog site, and the phone messages you've asked me to relay to her the last two days. Thank you for your healing energy -- she deeply appreciates it!
Before sharing today's update ... a special message: Yes, it takes a village ... in addition to Karen's terrific doctors, she wants to acknowledge her terrific nursing staff:
* Day #1 day shift: Justine (Rn), Lindsay (student Rn), & especially Gary (Certified Nurse Assistant - CNA) --- Day #1 night shift: Chestin (Rn) and Joy (CNA) --- Day #2 day shift: Cora (Rn) and especially Gary (again!!) --- Day #2 night shift: Chestin (Rn) and Joy (CNA). And of course, her niece Lauren, friend CJ, and myself -- who have stayed by her side day and night to keep an eye on things and provide a helping hand when needed.
Today started early for Karen with a 7:20 AM visit from one of her attending doctors, Dr. Gallis. He said she was looking good and reduced her pain medicine to "as-needed" vs. "continuous". At 8:40 AM both Dr. Hyde and Dr. Gallis came to see her and said she could switch to "light" food when she felt ready (e.g., chicken broth, jello, fruit).
Ah, the small things we often take for granted ... this morning Karen asked for her toothbrush, hairbrush, and face moisturizers. Today was a mix of ups and downs. The downs included: an upset tummy and periodic headache from her pain medicine and antibiotics. They gave her a variety of medicines to help. Ah, but the ups included: starting to eat light foods, napping, doing her hospital breathing exercises to keep her lungs strong and healthy, sitting in a chair in her room for an hour, and taking a short walk down the hall ... all big accomplishments for Day #2. You go girl! That's all for now ... more to follow soon.
In Love & Friendship,
Jeff & Karen

I can so relate. I remember my Day 2 watching people walk around so easily and thinking how for granted I had taken that. Of course I'm back to taking it for granted, but your Day 2 is a good reminder to be a little more thankful today.
Glad to hear your doing great. Just don't push it too fast too soon. (Not that I think moisturizer, toothbrush and a hair brush fall into that category.)
XOXO

I am so happy to read the good news! Not really a suprise though... Karen braved my first Thanksgiving turkey and climbed a 20 foot hill in heels to unfurl a congratulations banner for my graduation. There isn't anything she can't do.
