Family & Friends:
Karen is in good spirits and ready to come home. Tomorrow, we'll see if her doctor agrees! He said the first two days are the toughest, and that day 3 things improve a lot ... he was right!!
After a rough second night with an upset tummy and noisy patient next door, the morning improved starting with some banana and Cheerios. Susan, the "Mentor Nurse" on the floor, gave Karen a pep talk about eating more, taking short walks in the hallway, and doing her hospital breathing exercises if she wanted to go home sooner than later.
Guess what Karen did :-) Such a model patient ... she took three hallway walks, did her breathing exercises, and regained her appetite. She enjoyed lunch featuring turkey and mashed potatoes, and dinner featuring a fruit platter, cottage cheese, and barley soup.
The day passed listening to a meditation CD, naps, short hallway walks, sitting up in a chair, getting a sponge bath, and the best news of all ... disconnecting her IV ... free at last from those darn constraining tubes and tethers. Yes, the simplest of things can matter the most -- appreciating what we have is a blessing. And, her reconstruction doctor, Dr. B. (his nickname) saw Karen. He was very pleased with Karen's appearance and the progress she made today eating and getting some light exercise. More to follow soon.
Best to You All,
Jeff & Karen

Jeff - thanks so much for the update. You guys are constantly in my thoughts. Love, Julie
You're both amazing. Karen I knew you could do it and now that you're traipsing the halls and eating food that is good for you (I hope it's good food) I know you're on the road. Jeff, thanks for keeping us in the loop.
Much love to you both, Ruth & Paul
Karen & Jeff-
Sounds like at 114 degrees, Lake Las Vegas baked that cancer right out of her! Great news!! You have been in my thoughts and can't wait for the next time I see you when you are cancer free! Don't hesitate to contact your personal concierge if you need anything! I am confident that Karen will get through this hurdle with the grace and dignity that she approaches the rest of her life with. Rock on girlfriend! Your courage will get you through this! Cancer picked the wrong girl to mess with!
All the best,
Nicole
