Our beloved dog of 14 years, Blackie, died on Wednesday afternoon on December 5th. He hadn't been sick but apparently had a very large tumor that was attached to his spleen and Tuesday he became very ill. We rushed him to the hospital Wednesday afternoon where they operated on him and he died during surgery. Jeff and I are grieving the loss of a precious family member. I told Blackie when I was diagnosed with breast cancer in May that he could not leave the planet while I was going through this. Like the amazing being he was...he stayed. The tumor was the size of a small grapefruit. We're amazed at his will. I take it as a blessed sign that he felt he could go -- that he knew Jeff and I would be alright. That was his job while on the planet -- to take care of us. He was the VERY BEST!
Today is my last part of the reconstruction surgery where they will remove the port and replace my saline implant with a silicone one. It's at 10a.m. today under general anesthesia, for about three hours and then recovery about three hours. I'll be able to come home today too...which I am most grateful for. I'll be recuperating at home until January 8th and then returning to work. And although I won't come home to my Blackie, he will definitely be in the operating room with me. And my dear beloved husband, Jeff, will be there at my side. Jeff or I will do another blog update this weekend.
So please step up the prayers. Kahlil Gibran said "Love knows not its depths until the hour of separation." Love each other every day and don't take the small things in life for granted -- they aren't so small.
